Kayaking Split Apple Classic
Paddle a safe, sheltered section of the Tasman Bay coastline. See lots of good stuff in a small area including islands, caves, beaches and of course, Split Apple Rock. Loved by families and the cruiser in all of us for the last 18 years. Two hours on the water of guided kayaking.
This trip has a strong emphasis on fun and enjoyment. We don’t just show you the best spots to travel to, you will have a great time with a group of people in a beautiful area. Like all of our short trips we paddle at a relaxed pace and pause often to enjoy views, stories and conversation.
- No experience necessary.
- Enjoy the most sheltered part of the Kaiteriteri coastline.
- A great option for family fun.
- For families with younger children we would recommend the morning tour. The afternoon tour can quite offen be breezy due to the sea breeze which picks up around midday.

This tour covers the area between Kaiteriteri to the south and Split Apple Rock in the north. It is a relatively small area with lots of interesting nooks and crannies to explore. This makes it an ideal tour for the first timer and those who are looking for ultra cruisy kayaking! The trip starts at 8:30am with a safety briefing, with full instruction to make kayaking as simple as possible – even for first timers.
Tides play a big part in the tour itinerary. As these change with each day then so does our tour. We do however aim to get up to Split Apple Rock at around 11am. After a break for swimming, relaxing or exploring the beach we set off for Ngaio Island on the homeward journey. Back to Kaiteriteri at 11:45am.
Please note: This itinerary is an outline only. The 1pm trip returns approximately 4:30pm. Your guide may decide to vary this program based on their judgement of weather and sea conditions and client ability/fitness levels.
